TWO MEN AND A TRUCK
DONATES A MIKEY TO THE OSHAWA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT
THE MIKEY NETWORK
OSHAWA AIRPORT CUTLINE
June 9, 2008
“Two Men and A Truck” recently donated a MIKEY public-access defibrillator to the Oshawa Municipal Airport through The Mikey Network.
The Oshawa franchisee Steve deBoer and Canadian Vice President of Development and Operations Dan Hopkins of Two Men and A Truck – Canada were on hand when Hugh Heron, President of Heathwood Homes and Chairman/Co-founder of The Mikey Network made the presentation to Airport Manager Steve Wilcox.
Each year in Ontario, more than 6,500 people experience Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), which can strike without warning. Over 10 per cent of these cardiac arrests occur in public places. The use of a defibrillator is the only definitive treatment. The shock from a MIKEY can increase a person’s chance at living if it is used within the first critical moments following the incident, even before emergency personnel arrive. A trained “target responder” using a MIKEY can improve survival rates by up to 50 per cent.
Two Men and A Truck has been in business for 21 years and currently operates in the United States, Canada and Ireland, with 200 franchisees, operating 1,380 moving trucks, and operates with a customer satisfaction rate of 94 per cent.
The Oshawa Municipal Airport (www.oshawa-airport.com) is a full-service commercial and general aviation facility, offering a passenger terminal building, runways to serve a broad range of aircraft, modern navigational aids, serviced land for business investment and development, corporate and charter support facilities, and more.
The Mikey Network was named for Mike Salem, a valued partner at Heathwood Homes and The Heron Group who experienced SCA on a golf course in 2002, and died. In 2003, The Mikey Network was born with the goals of inspiring heart-healthy living and placing MIKEYs in high-risk locations. To date, The Mikey Network has raised over $1 million and has committed 400 MIKEYs across the GTA.
